It’s that SPOOKY time of the year–late October– when days are shorter, nights seem darker and a stillness comes to every living thing waiting for winter. Frost on trees in the early dawn, big moons, and crunching leaves fit the celebration of Halloween perfectly. This time of the year brings back fond memories of many Octobers: bobbing for apples, pumpkin patches, dressing in costume, telling SPOOKY stories, and trick or treating.
But did you know the origin of Halloween? Halloween dates back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. The Celts lived 2,000 years ago and celebrated their new year on November 1st. This new year marked the end of Summer and the beginning of the cold, dark winter. Celts believed that on the night before new year the worlds of the living and dead merged! So on October 31st the Celts celebrated Samhain, where it was thought that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth! Since those days, the festival has transformed into what is now Halloween.
People often ask me which of my albums is my favorite? Hunk-Ta-Bunk-Ta SPOOKY is definitely a top pick. On it are 18 spooky stories and songs for growing goosebumps. It was so much fun writing the songs, adapting the stories, recording it, becoming an old woods-woman, and adding all the sound effects. Have a listen and prepare… to chill you BONES!
